I recently caught up with Monte Frank and asked him if he would be interested in being interviewed for the site. Getting him to say yes to an interview was the easy part, catching up with a guy that finished 4th overall for the 2009 AMA Pro Supermoto Series was the hard part. If you haven't watched Supermoto in person than you are missing out on an exciting speed-fest of dirt, jumps, and asphalt! But, don't worry! You will have a chance to watch it in person coming up this month of March on the 28th at Mac Park Raceway. So, enough of me, here is the the interview..
OKmotocross.com: How long have you been riding motorcycles?
Monte Frank: I have been riding since i was 7 yrs old..
OKmotocross.com: When did you get into supermoto?
Monte Frank: I went to Dallas in 2005 and watched one of the first pro supermoto races, I knew a few of the guys racing. When I left there I told myself I'm buying a supermoto bike and racing, that looks like alot of fun..
OKmotocross.com: When did you turn pro and what was your first pro race?
Monte Frank: I turned pro in MX in '94 i think.. Back then Trey Owens and I went across the country jumping cars for the monster truck shows. We hit every national we could during that time we were traveling. I think we did Unadilla, Red Bud and some Canadian National...
In supermoto , I borrowed a bike from a dealer in California. Then I flew out there and raced the STARRS series in Socal. I raced beginner and novice class, I won both. So I bought a bike from them came home and raced the whole national supermoto series in 2006. In '06 there were like 50 guys trying to qualify, I finished 12th in my first race I was pretty pumped..
OKmotocross.com: What did you finish in the 2009 series and did it help with sponsors?
Monte Frank: In 2009 I finished 4th in the AMA Series, I had a podium finish and 4 top 5 finishes. I was the first person to put the NEW Husaberg on a podium in America.. I have some great sponsors who have been behind me along time..
OKmotocross.com: What does your 2010 schedule look like?
Monte Frank: In 2010 it looks like we are doing a smaller PRO schedule due to the new take over of the series(Supermotonation.org).. Scott Burney and I are going to make our own schedule. We are going to hit every money race in the country as well as alot of local races in Oklahoma , Colorado, California and Georgia. We are working on doing a few Euro races this year also.
OKmotocross.com: What will you be riding in the series this year?
Monte Frank: I am riding a 2010 Kawasaki 450 this year! Im am really excited about the switch, AJAX Kawasaki really stepped up and helped me out. Thanks Denny..

OKmotocross.com: How has training been going with all the bad weather we have had?
Monte Frank: Training over the winter just consists of doing alot of motos on an MX track, I have a 2010 KX 450 for training. We go to Texas every weekend that the weather is bad here.
OKmotocross.com: Are you still teaching supermoto? How can people contact you if they are interested?
Monte Frank: Slidewayz supermoto schools are still going on, I teach groups of 3-8 people how to ride supermoto. I have had students lose up to 7 seconds a lap by the end of the day. I try to make the schools fun. If anyone is interested they can reach me at slidewayzsupermoto@hotmail.com.
OKmotocross.com: You are putting on a race at Mac Park on the 28th of March. How did this come about? Do you plan on putting on more races?
Monte Frank: I am putting on a race with Fred Travanski (macparkraceway.com), we had talked about doing an event for a while but nothing ever happend. So, one day i called him and said we are doing an event in March and I will get all of the sponsors lined up.
