Canard's overall deficit went from 38 points to 16 with three events and a maximum of 150 points left in the AMA Lucas Oil outdoor motocross season. "It got really, really rough," Canard said of the track. "It got really choppy and it was only my second time to race here. But it was cool and I had a really good time."
In the opening moto, Pourcel made it through one lap before he rode off midway through the second after wrecking. Wilson led through the seventh lap before Barcia took the lead.
Canard went ahead to stay on the 13th lap.
"I saw (Pourcel) down on the ground and I just tried to be calm," Canard said about the early part of the opening moto. "I know this track can get you in trouble really quick. That was a good moto. I had to kind of fight for it in a couple of places. It was good."
